Christian School
Southern Cross Baptist Church School commenced in February 1988 as a result of a conviction among the members of Southern Cross Baptist Church to provide a distinctly Christian education for their children. Since that time, the school staff have had the opportunity to serve many students who have benefited from a discipleship based ministry during their critical formative years. Graduates have been successful in being trained in the ways of God and being prepared to enter university, TAFE or full time employment.
Schools are the training institutions for the next generation who will impact the direction of our country. Martin Luther said, “I am much afraid that universities will prove to be the great gates of hell, unless they diligently labour in explaining the Holy Scriptures, and engraving them in the hearts of youth. I advise no one to place his child where the Scriptures do not reign paramount. Every institution in which men are not unceasingly occupied with the Word of God must become corrupt.” We are pleased to say that our staff and curriculum are committed to the truth of the Word of God.
Our educational approach is both individualised and class-oriented to allow and encourage each student to reach their full God-given potential. If you are looking for a school that will seek to teach your children to love the Lord their God with all their heart, soul and mind and will challenge them to live their lives for the Lord Jesus Christ, then we would encourage you to prayerfully consider entrusting the school-based discipleship of your children to the staff here at Southern Cross Baptist Church Christian School.
Biblical foundations
Among the School's fundamental principles is that education must be based upon the foundation of God's Word, the Bible. Consequently, the Bible and a Biblical worldview are integral in all facets of school life. Students enjoy regular Chapel services and Bible studies.
The school places a high value on practical Christian service. Students are encouraged to seek out opporunities to assist staff members or fellow students and the school regularly ministers to the residents of a local nursing home.
Curriculum and programs
A student's school-day includes both inidividualsed and group learning. The school incorporates the Accelerated Christian Education curriculum of sequentially-programmed, individualised, mastery-based learning booklets called PACEs. This is supplemented by a significant proportion of face-to-face and group learning contexts.
The PACE work covers a number of the KLAs; such as English (including studies in both literature and grammar), Mathematics, Science, and Social Science. Face-to-face learning encompasses KLAs such as English, mathematics, technology, creative and performing arts and classes include photography, bible-telling, commerce, P.E. and written and oral expression.
The school places a high emphasis on its music program. Students receive instruction in music appreciation and participate in the school's choir and orchestra.
Representing the School
The school particiaptes in a number of performance programs and attends the annual ACE Schools Convention where the students have traditionally performed well.
The school hosts a combined Christian schools swimming carnival and participates in a combined Christian schools athletics carnival each year.
The school conducts a musical concert and drama night toward the end of each year as an opportunity for the students to develop and use their talents to glorify and bring praise to the Lord.
